Father Deacon Jonathon M. Yerkes, 48 of Millville, NJ passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Born in Bridgeton, NJ, he was a lifelong resident of Millville.
After graduating from Millville Senior High School in 1990, he received his Associates in Applied Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology from Cumberland County College in 1993. Jonathon also worked for his Uncle Joe at Bim’s Pizza, Prudential and Walmart. Starting in 1995, he began his career, working for the United States Postal Service, and in 1997 he began working full time. Jonathon will be remembered by many, as he served as a Postal Clerk at the Millville Post Office for over 26 years.
Jonathon was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He was active with his son Michael in the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed spending time with his son. Jonathon also enjoyed membership in the Rock and Mineral Club of Berlin, NJ. Jonathon enjoyed gardening, his Jack Russell Terrier dogs, and fishing and crabbing. He was active at the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Millville until its closing, and then became an active volunteer and Deacon in 2008 at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Vineland and Christ the King Russian Orthodox Church in Pennsylvania; He enjoyed spiritual readings, and loved the church.
He is survived by: wife, Krispen Yerkes; son, Michael James Yerkes; mother, Olga Matichen Yerkes; half brothers, Tom Yerkes (Liz), and Walt Yerkes; mother in law and father in law, Joyce and Jimmy Gandy; sister in law and brother in law, Brittney Gandy and Jimmy Gandy Jr.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Michael and Nina Matichen, Aunt Mary Matichen Pierce, cousin, Joseph (Joey) Pierce.
A Burial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, in the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church of Vineland starting at 10am. (Masks and social distancing recommendations should be followed at the church and cemetery) Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery of Millville.
